No. Everything is processed on your device. The app has no server and never sends your photo anywhere. It also keeps nothing once you leave the editor — unless you choose to save it to the encrypted vault, which stays on the phone too.

Yes, if you want to. The vault stores your safe copies — and the untouched originals behind them — inside the app, encrypted with AES-256 under a key released only by your PIN, passphrase or Face ID. It stays on the phone: no cloud, no backup, no sync. It is off until you turn it on, so by default the app still keeps nothing.

The files stay unreadable, including to us. There is no recovery, because nothing is uploaded — there is no copy anywhere for us to restore from. The app tells you so before you create the vault, and you can set a passphrase instead of a PIN if you would rather have something you can write down and keep somewhere safe.

No, and it is worth knowing where. A handful of checks are legally required to capture the complete document — a bank's anti-money-laundering verification, guest registration at a hotel in much of Europe, a statutory right-to-work check — and a redacted copy fails those. Everywhere else, which is most of what you will be asked, a redacted copy is exactly right. See when redacting your ID won't work.

Only if you redact it first. Once the sensitive fields are hidden and the copy is watermarked, an intercepted or forwarded image can't be used to open accounts or forge documents. Anonymize my ID prepares that safe copy in a few taps.
